What is Our Mission?

P-CASA’s mission is simple but powerful – we want to stop alcohol, tobacco, and drug use among Paterson’s youth through outreach, education, community empowerment, and collaboration.

HOW ARE WE CHANGING LIVES?

Since 2011, P-CASA has worked with and within the Paterson community to eliminate underage drinking, tobacco, and substance use—and to reduce the negative outcomes of these behaviors.

The cornerstone of our efforts is strong partnerships with the people of Paterson—students, parents, civic associations, faith-based organizations, schools, social service agencies, law enforcement, and media. With the help of this influential in-city network, P-CASA is moving Paterson toward positive outcomes:

  • Reduced access to alcohol for minors—We strongly support regulations that make it harder for local stores to sell alcohol- and tobacco-related products to underage buyers.
  • Greater awareness about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and substance use—We develop and distribute resources that tell the truth about the negative impact of alcohol and tobacco on our city’s youth.
  • Improved awareness about the laws surrounding alcohol and tobacco distribution—We develop and distribute resources that inform adults about the penalties for providing alcohol and tobacco to youths under 21 years old.
  • Advanced insight on who and how people are using alcohol, tobacco and drugs—We fund and facilitate surveys to uncover key facts about alcohol, tobacco and substance use in the city. We then use this insight to bring about helpful changes in the community.
